In-School Residencies
In-School Residencies
Phonetic Spit In-School Residencies are immersive, short-term arts-integration programs designed to strengthen literacy, confidence, and authentic self-expression among young people. Residencies typically include up to 25 classroom workshops delivered over the course of a single school week, allowing students to engage deeply with creative writing, spoken-word poetry, and public speaking in a concentrated and supportive environment.
Professional Phonetic Spit teaching artists visit classrooms daily, guiding students through a sequenced curriculum focused on voice, narrative development, critical thinking, and performance skills. Lessons are scaffolded to meet students where they are—whether emerging writers, reluctant readers, or confident communicators—and are aligned with language arts standards and social-emotional learning goals.
Each residency culminates in a final showcase or sharing event, where students present original work developed during the week. These moments of public affirmation reinforce belonging and validate students’ lived experiences.
Programming is custom-designed in collaboration with teachers and administrators to reflect the academic goals, student needs, and cultural context of each school community.
