Community Workshops, Open Mics & Poetry Slams
Community Workshops, Open Mics & Poetry Slams
Phonetic Spit’s Community Workshops, Open Mics, and Poetry Slams create public, welcoming spaces where youth can explore creative writing and public speaking while building confidence and connection. These programs extend learning beyond schools and institutions, offering low-barrier entry points into artistic expression.
Led by professional teaching artists, workshops introduce foundational writing and performance skills, while open mics and poetry slams provide affirming platforms for youth to share original work in front of live audiences. Events emphasize courage over competition and community over critique.
Community programs often serve as pathways into deeper engagement with Phonetic Spit’s residencies and ongoing offerings.
